Simone during his first origin trip
Hello there, my name is Simone and I’m a coffee lover that decided to pull the lever* and move to Nicaragua to volunteer for 1 year to learn, first-hand, everything I can about coffee farming and all the difficulties that are involved with it.
I decided to document this journey of mine through physical letters to keep track of my learnings and evolution as a rookie coffee farmer. In a society driven by algorithms and notifications continuously fighting for attention, I wanted something slower, more intentional. Social media didn’t feel like the right space for this so I started this project instead.
If you want to follow along and learn with me about this side of the coffee world that tends to be less well documented, you can subscribe to one of the options below. Once a month, you’ll receive a printed letter from me where I will share my learnings, field notes, thoughts, photos, and QR codes linking to extra content that didn’t quite fit in the letter. See it like something a bit like the old telegrams or faxes, but in a more modern way.

If you have a printer that supports email printing, you can set it up and share the email with me, then whenever a new letter is ready, it will instantly be printed for you by your printer, so next time you walk by it or hear the clinking sound of printing, you will be greeted with a nice surprise awaiting for you. This option is meant to keep costs as low as possible and avoid unnecessary CO2 emissions caused by shipments if you already have the tech available.
If you are not tech savvy or don’t have a printer that supports email printing, you can subscribe for the direct mailing. For the price of a cup of coffee or two (depending on where you live) you will receive the letters directly in your letterbox, no matter wherever you are in the world. In this way there will not only be bills and bad news waiting for you, instead each time you will look forward to finding out if there is a new letter from me as well.
You’ll receive a printed letter written personally by me with my experiences learning coffee farming in Nicaragua. It will include field notes, reflections, photos, and QR codes that link to additional content (extra images, playlists, voice notes, etc.). Think of it like a mix of a travel journal and an old telegram. The letters will be from a point of view of a coffee guy with more than 6 years experience in the brewing side of the coffee industry but none (except through books, videos, social media, etc.) on what really happens before it gets roasted.
If your printer supports printing via email (HP ePrint, Epson Email Print, etc.), you can share your printer’s email address with me. When I send out a new letter, your printer will automatically print it out for you, like magic, or a digital-age fax if you are less romantic. If you use this option, make sure the email [email protected] is in your approved senders list or that you have this option disabled (open to anyone). I promise I won’t share those emails with anyone else and will only use them for this purpose, you have my word! 🤞🤐
No worries. You can choose the Direct Mailing option and the letter will be printed and posted directly to your home — wherever you are in the world. This is probably the most poetic way so I highly recommend giving it a go if you want to experience this experiment to the fullest.
The beauty of this project is to detach from the overly connected world we live in today, so the idea is that you get the letters physically printed in your hands without relying on algorithms or emails that may end up in spam folders. For this reason I try to keep costs as low as possible even for the direct mailing option and highly recommend subscribing to it if you don’t have a printer with email printing technology. If, however, you would still prefer to to receive my Letters from the Finca at your regular email address and then manually print them, reach out to me at [email protected].
For the Email Printing option the letters get automatically printed by your printer; so whether you're in Switzerland, Japan, Brazil or a cabin in the woods — as long as there’s internet connection, the letter will find its way to you.
For the Direct Mailing option instead, I ship to all the countries except: Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Cuba, South Korea, Iran, Sudan, Syria and Yemen due to external factors beyond my control. P.O. box addresses in the countries to which I ship are also accepted.
The letters are only sent in English at the moment.
I send out one letter per month, usually around the end of the month but the exact timing may vary depending on how busy I am at the farm and when I have internet connection. Then it might also take a few days to get delivered if you subscribe for the physical mailing. Personally, I find that this unpredictability adds an extra touch to the experience.
The first Letter from the Finca will be sent in July 2025.
Yes you can, just choose the "one-time" payment option for the service you prefer, whether it is Email Printing or Direct Mailing.
Yes, you can add the option to “Buy me a coffee” during checkout when subscribing or, through the option below, simply leave a donation of your choice to support my personal storytelling and outreach work, thank you!
Yes, I’d love that! You can leave a comment directly on the dedicated page that opens by scanning the QR code you find in every letter, by sending me an email, through Instagram, or by writing me a letter in return — analog communication goes both ways. I’ll include my return address or contact info in each letter.
Unfortunately that won’t be possible, it can be a downside but that’s the charm of receiving something ephemeral and personal. I might consider putting them all together in one single package once the project is concluded.
Absolutely. No contracts, no guilt. As long as you are on the montly payment option you can unsubscribe whenever you want if the service does not meet your expectations.
To manage your subscription simply head over here. You can change your monthly plan or cancel your subscription at any moment.
If the experiment for any reason should fail completely or I won’t be able to deliver you the letters for a number of months, a refund will be issued to you for the corresponding number of months.
